Course Description: This session will dive into the complex and high-risk area of federal wage and hour law compliance starting with exemption classification laws, including how to properly draft job descriptions and ensuring that exempt positions are properly classified to avoid individual and corporate liability. Non-exempt regulations will also be addressed not only in terms of the legal requirements, but strategies to avoid non-compliance penalties and lawsuits relating to off the clock work, use of timekeeping apps, training/meeting time, travel time, volunteer activities, and meal and rest periods. Attendees will also be provided guidance to comply with properly calculating the regular rate of pay when bonuses, commissions, or incentives are paid, as well as the growing legal risks due to improper wage deductions.
